When was the last time you did what YOU wanted to do, with no input or influence from outside yourself? Probably a long-ass time.
Art isn't about performance or perfection. It's about you. You deserving it. You believing it's possible. You daring to stand in defiance of the white supremacist, patriarchal status quo.
The Creatives' Rebellion is my Patreon community, which starts at just $3 per month. Inside, you'll get access to a vault of rebellious trainings and resources, bonus podcast episodes, and even some merch.
chronically ill, fat, neurodivergent, and queer - at your service
Cinderella's fairy godmother magically turned her pumpkin into a carriage and her rags into a ball gown. What I do is more like turning that shitty little voice in your head that tells you you're not good enough into a permission slip to do what you want, when you want.
lemme just make sure we'll get along...
Black Lives Matter.
Queer people - every single letter of the LGBTQIA+ acronym - are valid.
Trans women are women, trans men are men, and genders beyond the binary not only exist but deserve to be celebrated.
No one is illegal on stolen land. Abolish ICE. Defund the police.
Genocide is 100% not okay. Fascism is 100% not okay.
Free Palestine.
Me: Autistic, ADHD, Anxiety, C-PTSD, OCD
You: Any flavor of neurodivergence, but I tend to work REALLY well with fellow auDHDers.
I do not use "neurodivergent" to mean "auDHD," and if you ever see me doing that, call me out.
I'm disabled. I have chronic pain, plus the ADHD and OCD make things particularly difficult to manage sometimes.
So it's possible (despite my best intentions) that I reply late to your email, reschedule a call here and there, or otherwise drop the ball on stuff that most businesses consider basic "professionalism."
I am just one person, though. I need a little slack.
I trust you to be a human trusting me to be a human.
As your coach I will be devoted to your audacious vision. You just might need to text me and be like "dude, you were gonna send me that thing" sometimes.
Deal?
Some tiers have merch, designed by MEEEEE!
if you want me to pick for you: mycelium
You radiate warmth and life in our meadow. We couldn't do it without you.
Your contribution to our community nourishes all of us.
You are the storyteller inspired by nature's abundance.
You keep us grounded in the present moment.
Well now you're just showing off.
"I used to think every little thing I was decent at should be monetized. Now I can create for myself first. Not everything is about proving my worth to the world."
"I thought of my down-time as wasted. Now I protect the things that make me feel alive and free."
"Before, I had a tendency of holding myself to standards that are too high for anyone, let alone someone with a life as complex as mine."
"It's taken so much guilt out of creating because I understand it's a vital part of me that needs to be nurtured."
when it comes to pursuing your creativity...
The hustling creative...
Struggles to create regularly due to lack of motivation or inspiration
Feels pressured to monetize hobbies to make them feel like a good use of time
Has major guilt over "unproductive" time spent on creative hobbies
Is too busy to even have hobbies in the first place
Is a former "gifted kid" with all that "wasted potential"
The rebellious creative...
Protects the boundaries around their creative activities
Creates without feeling pressure to sell it to justify it
Makes creativity part of play, rest, and recovery as an inherent need
Treats mistakes with compassion and understanding rather than harsh criticism
Sees creativity as an inherent part of their own humanity
To be a creative rebel you have to unlearn a lot of things you think you know. You have to be able to recognize and resist internalized capitalism.
Commit to creativity in any capacity and embrace it as part of your resistance against the status quo.
Once you see that art is activism, it's less personal and more about changing the world - and you can inspire others to believe it too.
Overwhelmed creatives won't fall behind because there IS no behind.
The Creatives' Rebellion framework focuses on three key values.
RESIST. Unlearn the pressures of internalized capitalism that keep you in hustle mode, and disconnect your inherent worthiness from your productivity.
CREATE. Create for yourself, not for mastery, outside pressure, or what your mom thinks. Develop a creative practice that meets your deepest creative needs.
RECRUIT. Inspire and model for others by showing what is possible when you stop hustling and embrace your innate creativity.
As long as your spirit is aligned with these values and you want to create on your terms, you'll find a place here.
You already know what I am going to say! YES, YOU DESERVE THIS!!! How much are you doing for everyone around you? Your employer, your family, your friends?
This is about the belief that you deserve just a little bit of the energy you're giving everyone else.
You're allowed to do it for you.
Part of RESISTING capitalist, hustle-obsessed, productivity culture is letting yourself enjoy the things that you do for you. If you WANT to be here, that's all the permission you need.
Give me, like, five minutes and you'll get it.
Joking aside, the Rebellion is an activist space in the sense that ART and CREATIVITY are inherently rebellious in the face of mass produced, cookie cutter output in the world. Art has always challenged the system. Art has always been rebellious.
At any stage of your journey, you are welcome here. We do not expect you to be perfectly "woke."
Since we began working together, my entire mindset around my potential, abilities, and creativity has shifted. Before coaching I felt like I was mediocre at best, and not talented enough to reach the goals I had. After coaching with Caitlin I feel energized, excited for the future, and like the dreams I have of a creative, full career and life ARE possible for me. Caitlin is the best coach for me because they GET where I am coming from as an Autistic individual, as someone who is chronically ill, and as someone who has experienced trauma.
I reminded myself that my goals were literally just made up by me and I can adjust them as needed without judging myself or grading myself. I’m not trying to show off my to-do list tackling skills, I’m trying to grow. I think I was more ready for the structure this group offers than I thought.
[The Creatives' Rebellion] is feeling like my secret sauce to any shred of order.
My entire life I have struggled with imposter syndrome, questioning and doubting myself, and general low self esteem. In the most gentle, but direct, way possible, Caitlin encourages me to take a second look and dig for why all of these damaging ways of thinking are falsehoods. With Caitlin’s coaching, I am learning to not only be patient with myself, but with life in general. It’s not a race, and the only way to keep going is with small steps, gentleness of self, growth, and steady perseverance.
