Mass Blackout Nov 25 - Dec 2

7 day blackout

This is a strategic silence.

As much as you are able, participate in the blackout by not participating in the perpetual machine of capitalism.

We have one chance to put a stick right in the bicycle wheel.

Will it overhaul society in one week? Absolutely not. But it can, and it will, scare the ever-loving shit out of the corporate elite.

A full breakdown of the Mass Blackout can be found here: https://www.themassblackout.com

what are we doing, and why?

the quick details

  • When: November 25 (Tuesday before Thanksgiving) through December 2 (Giving Tuesday)

  • What: A complete pause in economic activity. No shopping, no streaming, no scrolling, no transaction fees, no working.

  • Why: Because the collective power of working-class Americans is greater than the power of the corporations and politicians who profit from our labor, and it's time we remind them of that.

  • How: Prepare in advance - stock up on groceries now. Do your holiday shopping before, or after the blackout week. Request your PTO. Pull out cash so you can spend it with small, local businesses.

Community over consumption

While we're not shopping, streaming, and scrolling, what are we gonna do? I've rounded up several FREE community events for you to choose from, so you can spend time with like-minded folks and make new connections.

For entrepreneurs who worry that making money isn't ethical...

Anti-Capitalist Business 101

Friday, November 21

Megan Griffith is teaching a free class on how to run our businesses without succumbing to the evils of capitalism. Because capitalism is NOT the same thing as business. It absolutely is possible to run a business in an anti-capitalist way!

It'll be an interactive, chatty class where we'll cover money guilt, exploitative vs. non-exploitative biz practices, and how to create an anti-capitalist business plan.

For queer biz owners who need to be with people who just get it.

queer & a

Tuesday, November 25

This two hour QUEER & A session on Tuesday, November 25 @ 2pm ET - 4pm ET is for YOU to make new LGBTQ+ biz besties, start conversations about being queer in business, and embrace queer joy as resistance. We'll be here for the full 2 hours so please feel free to come and go as you schedule allows.

This call will not be recorded and no photos will be taken to honor those who may be joining us who are not out in all areas of their lives.

This event is being hosted by Caitlin Fisher (they/them) and Kristy Black (she/they).

For neurodivergent writers

write wild, publish loud

Wednesday, November 26

Write Wild, Publish Loud is a free virtual event for neurospicy, disabled, and queer writers who are done chasing the algorithm and ready to create on their own terms.

Caitlin's talk is about rejecting the "escalator of life," and turning burnout and feelings of failure into audacity. I’ll be sharing how I went from gifted kid burnout to building a weird, wonderful creative career that honors my neurodivergence, queerness, and emotional truth.

For folks who want to put love into the world
